They say sports do not build character. They reveal it.
On Sunday Jimmy took on the Five Peaks. His journey saw him come off his bike twice. Bruised and battered, Jimmy did not relent. He maintained hope at all times which is the very essence of what sport means to all of us.
Jimmy completed the Five Peaks. He reached Owenbeg, he got his medal and he took to the podium.
Knackered, shaking and happy, Jimmy’s demonstration of the human spirit had crested Benbradagh. It was there on the Birren, on Slieve Gallion’s rough braes, on Ballynagilly with only the rain and wind for company, and with him as he descended the Brown Knowes.
Jimmy won this award for pure resilience, and keeping going.
